I'm taking a few minutes to run down to the business office and post a quick update while Lydia is sleeping. (Hallelujah!)
The foster mother arrived about 20 minutes late due to the rain. When she arrived, Lydia was in good spirits and even smiled several times from the saftey of her foster mother's arms. The foster mother brought some food items for Lydia, including some seaweed to mix with her rice. We gave the foster mother the gifts and a card with a special message to both the foster mother and father which we had the social worker translate to Korean. Then Dr. Kim came down and prayed over us in Korean. The foster mother handed Lydia over to Katy, said a quick "Goodbye" and then left. Then the tears began.
We took Lydia back to our room where she cried until around 6 PM. Katy would walk up and down the hallway and around our room. Lydia kept looking for her foster mother. It was a very difficult time. Finally, I put one of the Korean children's music CD's in the laptop and then Lydia fell asleep. Katy layed down with her until about 8:30 PM.
Before she woke up, I went to the kitchen and fixed some scrambled eggs for dinner. Lydia loves her daddy's scrambled eggs! She didn't cry while eating and let us take turns feeding her. She had a good appetite and enjoyed eating. We even got a smile out of her! We fix a bottle for her, but she wouldn't take it. However, she did drink some water out of her Pororo sippy cup. We also feed her some Cheerios and puffs.
After eating, she started crying again. We made it through the first diaper change, but Lydia was not happy at all about that. Katy was able to get her calmed down again and then needed to get ready for bed. So, I held Lydia and took her into the bathroom so she could watch Katy brush her teeth and wash her face. She was facinated by this and didn't cry. (The "not crying" is becoming a big event.) She got a little fussy, but Katy was able to get her to fall back to sleep about 10:45 PM. We hope she will sleep until we get up at 5:30 AM to get ready to head for the airport around 7 AM.
She is starting to bond with Katy and is a little shy around me at times. She is adorable when she is sleeping and has the saddest face when she is crying. She is a precious little girl and we are truly blessed.

My positive thoughts and prayers are with all of you! I can so vividly picture the 3 of you at Eastern...the room, the bathroom, the kitchen, the hallway. Every day will be better than the previous day. I can hear Lydia's cry vividly in my mind too....the baby/family we traveled in the van with to the airport....same exact thing. Crying, and more crying! Lydia will love you deeply. It just takes time. Let me know if I can help you in any way once you arrive to the US.
ReplyDeleteI am praying for you all and sending happy thoughts your way. I know this transition will be so hard but you will all get through it. It won't take little Lydia long to realize how loved she is. What a blessing that she was obviously loved and well cared for by her foster parents! God picked them to take of her for you just as he picked Lydia to be yours. No matter the circumstance when your baby cries it kills you, but it won't last forever. However the love you all will share will last forever! Keep us informed and I hope the flight goes OK!! Love you! Carole Hammell
